 How we are creating diseases in our bodies are the toxic products that we are using daily.  The toxicity in our air, water, and food is killing us and all of life on this planet.

 Don't freeze your plastic water bottles as this releases dioxins from the water into the plastic.

Dr. Edward Fujimoto from Castle hospital was on a TV program explaining
this health hazard. (He is the manager of the Wellness Program at the
hospital.) He was talking about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we
should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxins into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Dioxins are carcinogens and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies.

 Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, without the dioxins. So such things as TV dinners,
instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated or  in something else.

Paper isn't bad but you do not know what is in the paper.

It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc To add to this, Saran wrap placed over foods as they are  nuked,with the high
 heat, actually drips poisonous toxins into the food, use paper towels instead.

WINNIPEG - Western farmers are struggling with a new pest in their fields - a crop that was supposed to make their lives easier. Genetically modified (GM) canola is appearing in farmers' fields where it wasn't planted, and because the plant has been engineered to resist conventional herbicides, it's tough to kill. Agricultural scientists suspect that the plants spread through cattle manure. The seeds travel through an animal's digestive tract and are deposited on the soil, where they germinate. "The GM canola has, in fact, spread much more rapidly than we thought it would," said Martin Entz, a plant scientist at the University of Manitoba. "It's absolutely impossible to control." Ottawa approved GM canola in 1996, and at the time it did consider the possibility that it could become a weed. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency describes the current problem as "a nuisance" and has advised farmers to "use another chemical." But the alternative chemicals can kill farmers' intended crops, and in some cases, the GM canola appears to be resistant to the other chemicals.

Monsanto, which created on of the GM canola strains, says that if farmers' call the company, they'll send out a team to manually pull up the weeds. But Martin Phillipson, a University of Saskatchewan law professor, said that Monsanto may be liable for damages if their GM canola continues to spread.

The author is Dr. Barbara Starfield of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and she describes how the US health care system may contribute to poor health.

What does the word iatrogenic mean? This term is defined as induced in a patient by a physician's activity, manner, or therapy. Used especially of a complication of treatment. Dr. Starfield offers several warnings in interpreting these numbers: First, most of the data are derived from studies in hospitalized patients. Second, these estimates are for deaths only and do not include negative effects that are associated with disability or discomfort. Third, the estimates of death due to error are lower than those in the IOM report.1

If the higher estimates are used, the deaths due to iatrogenic causes would range from 230,000 to 284,000. In any case, 225,000 deaths per year constitutes the third leading cause of death in the United States, after deaths from heart disease and cancer. Even if these figures are overestimated, there is a wide margin between these numbers of deaths and the next leading cause of death (cerebrovascular disease).

Another analysis concluded that between 4% and 18% of consecutive patients experience negative effects in outpatient settings,with:

116 million extra physician visits
77 million extra prescriptions
17 million emergency department visits
8 million hospitalizations
3 million long-term admissions
199,000 additional deaths
$77 billion in extra costs.

The high cost of the health care system is considered to be a deficit, but seems to be tolerated under the assumption that better health results from more expensive care. However, evidence from a few studies indicates that as many as 20% to 30% of patients receive inappropriate care. An estimated 44,000 to 98,000 among them die each year as a result of medical errors.2

This might be tolerated if it resulted in better health, but does it? Of 13 countries in a recent comparison,3,4 the United States ranks an average of 12th (second from the bottom) for 16 available health indicators. More specifically, the ranking of the US on several indicators was:

13th (last) for low-birth-weight percentages
13th for neonatal mortality and infant mortality overall 14
11th for postneonatal mortality
13th for years of potential life lost (excluding external causes)
11th for life expectancy at 1 year for females, 12th for males
10th for life expectancy at 15 years for females, 12th for males
10th for life expectancy at 40 years for females, 9th for males
7th for life expectancy at 65 years for females, 7th for males
3rd for life expectancy at 80 years for females, 3rd for males
10th for age-adjusted mortality

The poor performance of the US was recently confirmed by a World Health Organization study, which used different data and ranked the United States as 15th among 25 industrialized countries.

There is a perception that the American public "behaves badly" by smoking, drinking, and perpetrating violence." However the data  does not support this assertion.

The proportion of females who smoke ranges from 14% in Japan to 41% in Denmark; in the United States, it is 24% (fifth best). For males, the range is from 26% in Sweden to 61% in Japan; it is 28% in the United States (third best). The US ranks fifth best for alcoholic beverage consumption.

The US has relatively low consumption of animal fats (fifth lowest in men aged 55-64 years in 20 industrialized countries) and the third lowest mean cholesterol concentrations among men aged 50 to 70 years among 13 industrialized countries.

These estimates of death due to error are lower than those in a recent Institutes of Medicine report, and if the higher estimates are used, the deaths due to iatrogenic causes would range from 230,000 to 284,000.

Even at the lower estimate of 225,000 deaths per year, this constitutes the third leading cause of death in the US, following heart disease and cancer. Lack of technology is certainly not a contributing factor to the US's low ranking.

Among 29 countries, the United States is second only to Japan in the availability of magnetic resonance imaging units and computed tomography scanners per million population. 17 Japan, however, ranks highest on health, whereas the US ranks among the lowest.  It is possible that the high use of technology in Japan is limited to   diagnostic technology not matched by high rates of treatment,  whereas in the US, high use of diagnostic technology may be  linked to more treatment. Supporting this possibility are data  showing that the number of employees per bed (full-time   equivalents) in the United  States is highest among the countries  ranked, whereas they are very low in Japan, far lower than can be   accounted for by the common practice of having family members rather than hospital staff provide the amenities of hospital care. Care, not treatment, is the answer. Drugs, surgery and hospitals are rarely the answer to chronic health problems. Facilitating the God-given healing capacity that all of us have is the key. Improving the diet, exercise, and lifestyle are basic. Effective interventions for the underlying emotional and spiritual wounding behind most chronic illness are also important clues to maximizing health and reducing disease.

 
 

                                      Cinnamon Spice Produces Healthier Blood

Just half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day significantly reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics, a new study has found. The effect, which can be produced even by soaking a cinnamon stick your tea, could also benefit millions of non-diabetics who have blood sugar problem but are unaware of it.

The discovery was initially made by accident, by Richard Anderson at the US Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland."We were looking at the effects of common foods on blood sugar," he told New Scientist. One was the American favourite, apple pie, which is usually spiced with cinnamon. "We expected it to be bad. But it helped," he says.  Sugars and starches in food are broken down into glucose, which then circulates in the blood. The hormone insulin makes cells take in the glucose, to be used for energy or made into fat.

But people with Type 1 diabetes do not produce enough insulin. Those with Type 2 diabetes produce it, but have lost sensitivity to it. Even apparently healthy people, especially if they are overweight, sedentary or over 25, lose sensitivity to insulin. Having too much glucose in the blood can cause serious long-term damage to eyes, kidneys, nerves and other organs.
                                                  
Molecular mimic

The active ingredient in cinnamon turned out to be a water-soluble polyphenol compound called MHCP. In test tube experiments, MHCP mimics insulin, activates its receptor, and works synergistically with insulin in cells.

To see if it would work in people, Alam Khan, who was a postdoctoral fellow in Anderson's lab, organised a study in Pakistan. Volunteers with Type 2 diabetes were given one, three or six grams of cinnamon powder a day, in capsules after meals.

All responded within weeks, with blood sugar levels that were on average 20 per cent lower than a control group. Some even achieved normal blood sugar levels. Tellingly, blood sugar started creeping up again after the diabetics stopped taking cinnamon.

The cinnamon has additional benefits. In the volunteers, it lowered blood levels of fats and "bad" cholesterol, which are also partly controlled by insulin. And in test tube experiments it neutralised free radicals, damaging chemicals which are elevated in diabetics.

A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest, and a cough must be repeated about every 2 seconds without let up until help arrives,or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital

I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on "ASPARTAME marketed as 'NutraSweet', 'Equal', and 'Spoonful"'. In the keynote address by the EPA, they announced that there was an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, and they did not understand what toxin was causing this to be rampant across the United States. I explained that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject. When the temperature of Aspartame exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME coverts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. (Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants). The methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis; thus people were being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error. The multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, where methanol toxicity is. In the case of systemic  lupus, we are finding it has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. Also, with methanol toxicity, the victims usually drink three to four 12 oz. cans of them per day, some even  more. In the cases of systemic lupus, which is triggered by ASPARTAME, the victim usually does not know that the aspartame is the culprit. The victim continues its use aggravating the lupus to such a degree, that sometimes it becomes life threatening. When we get people off the aspartame, those with systemic lupus usually become asymptomatic. Unfortunately, we can not reverse this disease. On the other hand, in the case of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, (when in reality, the disease is methanol toxicity), most of the symptoms disappear. We have seen cases where their vision has returned and even their hearing has returned. This also applies to cases of tinnitus (constant ringing in the ears).

During a lecture I said "If you are using ASPARTAME (NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches,  tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss-you probably have ASPARTAME DISEASE!" People were jumping up during the lecture saying, "I've got this, is it reversible?" It is rampant. Some of the speakers at my lecture even were suffering from these symptoms. In one lecture attended by the Ambassador of Uganda, he told us that their sugar industry is adding aspartame! He continued by saying that one of the industry leader's sons could no longer walk - due in part by product usage! We have a very serious problem. Even a stranger came up to Dr. Espisto (one of my speakers) and myself and said, "Could you tell me why so many people seem to be coming down with MS?" During a visit to a hospice, a nurse said that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence. Here is the  problem. There were Congressional Hearings when aspartame was included in 100 different products. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, but to no avail. Nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets. Now there are over 5,000 products containing this chemical, and the PATENT HAS EXPIRED!!!!! At the time of this first hearing, people were going blind. The methanol in the aspartame converts to formaldehyde in the retina of the eye. Formaldehyde is grouped in the same Reality class of drugs as cyanide and arsenic-DEADLY POISONS! Unfortunately, it just takes longer to quietly kill, but it is killing people and causing all kinds of neurological problems.

Aspartame changes the brain's chemistry. It is the reason for severe seizures. This drug changes the dopamine level in the brain. Imagine what this drug does to patients suffering from Parkinson's Disease. This drug also causes Birth Defects. There is absolutely no reason to take this product. It is NOT A DIET PRODUCT! The Congressional record said, "It makes you crave carbohydrates and will make you FAT". Dr. Roberts stated that when he got patients off aspartame, their average weight loss was 19 pounds per person. The formaldehyde stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Aspartame is especially deadly for diabetics. All physicians know what wood alcohol will do to a diabetic. We find that physicians believe that they have patients with retinopathy, when in fact, it is caused by the aspartame. The aspartame keeps the blood sugar level out of control, causing many patients to go into a coma. Unfortunately, many have died. People were telling us at the Conference of the American College of Physicians, that  they had relatives that switched from saccharin to an aspartame product and how that relative had eventually gone into a coma.

Their physicians could not get the blood sugar levels under control. Thus, the patients suffered acute memory loss and eventually coma and death. Memory loss is due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are neurotoxic without the other amino acids found in protein. Thus it goes past the blood brain barrier and deteriorates the neurons of the brain. Dr. Russell Blaylock, neurosurgeon, said, "The ingredients stimulates the neurons of the brain to death, causing brain damage of varying degrees.


Dr. Blaylock has written a book entitled "EXCITOTOXINS: THE TASTE THAT KILLS" (Health Press 1-800-643-2665). Dr. H.J. Roberts, diabetic specialist and world expert on aspartame poisoning, has also written a book entitled "DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE" (1-800-814-9800). Dr. Roberts tells how aspartame poisoning is escalating Alzheimer's Disease, and indeed it is. As the hospice nurse told me, women are being admitted at 30 years of age with Alzheimer's Disease. Dr. Blaylock and Dr. Roberts will be writing a position paper with some case histories and will post it on the Internet. According to the Conference of the American College of Physicians, 'We are talking about a plague of neurological diseases caused by this deadly poison". Dr. Roberts realized what was happening when aspartame was first marketed. He said "his diabetic patients presented memory loss, confusion, and severe vision loss". At the Conference of the American College of Physicians, doctors admitted that they did not know. They had wondered why seizures were rampant (the phenylalanine in aspartame, in reality, breaks down the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin, which causes manic depression, panic attacks, rage and violence). Just before the Conference, I received a FAX from Norway, asking for a possible antidote for this poison because they are experiencing so many problems in their country. This "poison" is now available in 90 PLUS countries worldwide. Fortunately, we had speakers and ambassadors at the Conference from different nations who have pledged their help. We ask that you help too. Print this article out and warn everyone you know. Take anything that contains aspartame back to the store. Take the "NO ASPARTAME TEST" and send us your case history. I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of aspartame, knows how deadly it is. They fund the American Diabetes Association, American Dietetic Association, Congress, and the Conference of the American College of Physicians. The New York  Times, on November 15, 1996, ran an article on how the American Dietetic Association takes money from the food  industry to endorse their products. Therefore, they can not criticize any  additives or tell about their link to MONSANTO.

How bad is this? We told a mother who had a child on NutraSweet to get off the product. The child was having grand mal seizures every day. The mother called her physician, who called the ADA, who told the doctor not to take the child off the NutraSweet. We are still trying to convince the mother that the aspartame is causing the seizures. Every time we get someone off of aspartame, the seizures stop. If the baby dies, you know whose fault it is, and what we are up against. There are 92 documented symptoms of aspartame, from coma to death. The majority of them are all neurological, because the aspartame destroys the nervous system. Aspartame Disease is partially the cause of what is behind some of the mystery of the Dessert Storm health problems. The burning tongue and other problems discussed in over 60 cases can be directly related to the  consumption of an aspartame product. Several thousand pallets of diet drinks were shipped to the Dessert Storm troops. (Remember heat can liberate the methanol from the aspartame at 86 degrees F). Diet drinks sat in the 120 degree F. Arabian sun for weeks at a time on pallets. The service men and women drank them all day long. All of their symptoms are identical to aspartame poisoning. Dr. Roberts says "consuming aspartame at the time of conception can cause birth defects". The phenylalanine concentrates in the placenta, causing mental retardation, according to Dr. Louis Elsas, Pediatrician Professor - Genetics, at Emory University in his testimony before Congress. In the original lab tests, animals developed brain  tumors (phenylalanine breaks down into DXP, a brain tumor agent). When Dr. Espisto was lecturing on aspartame, one physician in the audience, a neurosurgeon, said, "when they remove brain tumors, they have found high levels of aspartame in them". DEVELOPMENTAL pediatrician Cecelia McCarton used to see one or two autistic children a year. These days, three or four new patients come into her Manhattan office every week. "It's the new epidemic," McCarton says - and there's plenty of evidence she's right.

Professionals and parents across the city are reporting a surge in autism, a spectrum of developmental disabilities that can lock children in an invisible prison.

Speech pathologist Margery Rappaport saw her first autistic child a decade ago. Now these "lost children" make up 75 percent of her client roster.

"The world thinks of 'Rain Man' when they hear 'autism.' They think it's a death sentence. They don't realize how complex and pervasive it is," Rappaport says.   Just how many people have autism or a related disorder is unknown, but the federal government acknowledges the numbers are growing.  In the mid-1980s, the figure tossed around was 1 in 2,500. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates as many as 1 in 500 people have autism today. There are indications that's a conservative estimate. A federal study in Brick Township, N.J., found 1 in 250 children with autism - and no reason why the disorder should be more prevalent there.  Locally, the Department of Mental Health estimates there are 11,000 people in the city with autism, but adds that number could be higher.  The Board of Education reports a 60 percent increase in the number of students in its autism programs, from 1,544 in 1996 to 2,450 this year.  Statewide figures have doubled, from 2,550 preschool and school-age kids in 1994, to 5,142 by the end of 1998. Sandy Levine, executive director of the Autism Foundation of New York, believes there is an "autism cluster" on Staten Island and is pushing for an epidemiological study. "It's worse than an epidemic because we're going to have our hands full for20 or 30 years," says Levine, the father of a 6-year-old autistic boy. "It's heartbreaking." FIRST recognized in 1943, autism is a collection of communication, social and behavioral disorders.  At its worst, it can leave a child trapped in an impenetrable shell. But many people with autism are high-functioning and others make tremendous strides through treatment.

Movies like "Rain Man" and celebrities who have autistic children, including actor Sylvester Stallone and football stars Doug Flutie and Dan Marino, have helped raise awareness of autism.  But for decades, autism was a hidden, grossly misunderstood condition, labeled as a psychological disorder caused by bad parenting by "refrigerator mothers." Fortunately, the medical community now realizes it's a neuro-biological condition that is probably influenced by more than a dozen genes.   Still, scientists don't know exactly what causes it - genetics alone, a virus or a toxin - or why the numbers are skyrocketing.  "Part of it could be due to changes in diagnostic criteria and betterdiagnosis," said Marie Bristol-Powers, coordinator of autism programs at the National Institute of Mental Health. "Do we think that accounts for all of the increase? The answer is no."  The fiercest debate is over the etiology centers on vaccines, a powder-keg issue that has been the subject of congressional hearings and dueling scientific reports. Suspicion about childhood vaccines cropped up because children often exhibit autistic behaviors around 18 months of age, after receiving the shots. One 1998 British study found a correlation between the MMR injection (measles, mumps, rubella) and the spike in autism cases, but a subsequent survey swiftly shot down those findings.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Mental Health insist there is no evidence of a link, but that hasn't quieted speculation that the live viruses of mercury preservatives in the vaccines trigger autism in susceptible children."There's no other explanation for this huge upsurge," says Dr. Bernard Rimland of the Autism Research Institute. WHATEVER the cause, there's little question the sharp increase in autism cases has created new pressures.

Lawyer Gary Mayerson, the father of an autistic child, recently launched a firm dedicated to fighting for education services for afflicted children.  Studies have shown intensive one-on-one behavioral therapy is the most effective treatment for autistic kids, but good programs can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 a year. "Scientists have known about [behavioral therapy] for years, but school districts have been slow to pick it up or they pay lip service to it or they don't want to pay for it," he says. Mayerson has 90 clients who are pushing for school districts to pick up the tab for special programs, and a third of those cases will probably go to court. The good news, he says, is that New York City and most of New York state  and New Jersey are progressive compared to other parts of the country. But Andrew Baumann, president of the Autism Coalition of the Empire State and the father of a 7-year-old autistic boy, notes that awareness doesn't  always equal treatment. There are not enough services available. You say, 'OK, I'll find a good service provider.' They tell you, 'Sorry, we have a five-year waiting list,'" he says. "Then you go to your insurance company and they say, 'We don't cover that.'  "Everything is a battle. Everything is a fight," he says. "These kids are lost souls, and we just want to get them the help they deserve."

Monsanto bought Searle in l985. According to records from the UK,   aspartame was approved in l974, but they show no record of it being  rescinded as it was here in the US. Nor are there any records I could find  in the UK that expose the fact that on January 10, l977 in a 33 page  letter, FDA chief counsel Richard Merrill recommended to U.S. Attorney Sam  Skinner a grand jury investigate Searle for "apparent violations of the  Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act 21 USC 331 and for concealing material  facts and making false statements in reports of animal studies conducted to  establish the safety of aspartame." The statute of limitations gave  out. Aspartame was actually approved in l981 when Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes  over-ruled a Board of Inquiry that told him not to do it.  Below is an article that explains how NutraSweet got approved, Notice the  word "drug" in the heading because that is what  aspartame is, a deadly drug!

CHARITY LINKED TO MAKERS OF SUSPECT DRUG ASPARTAME CONTROVERSY

"Professor Paul Turner, head of the Government committee which approved the
controversial artificial sweetener, aspartame, has an indirect link with
its manufacturer, G. D. Searle.

Synthelabo, Searle's major partner in Europe, is behind the funding of
Professor Turner's research at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London.

Professor Turner told the Guardian on Friday: "The Department of Health and
Social security are aware of any commercial relationships I have, including
my relationship with Synthelabo and the Charterhouse Unit. These were
declared several years ago."

His research is funded by a charity called the Synthelabo Foundation, which
receives it money from a limited company called the Charterhouse Clinical
Research Unit. The share capital for that company was provided by Lers, a
subsidiary of Synthelabo.

Studies have shown that aspartame would seriously damage some children.

The head of the Government committee responsible for approving the
controversial new artificial sweetener aspartame - sold as Canderel and
NutraSweet - has an indirect but significant link with the manufacturers,
G. D. Searle.

A charity set up by Professor Paul Turner, chairman of the toxicity
committee, to fund his research at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London, is
backed by Searle's biggest partner in Europe, Synthelabo.

Chairman and members of expert committees which examine potentially
hazardous substances are obliged to declare their commercial interests when
they are appointed, and in practice, before each meeting. Although
Professor Turner's interest may not qualify as a "commercial interest,"
senior members of the medical establishment consider it to be in the public
interest for such matters to be declared.

The junior health minister, Mr. John Patten, wrote in a letter during the
parliamentary row over aspartame in October that Professor Turner had never
had any connections with Searle.

Professor Turner's charity is the Synthelabo Foundation, of which he is one
of two trustees. The other is the vice-president in charge of research at
Synthelabo. Professor Guiseppe Bartholini.

Searle and Synthelabo, the fourth biggest drugs company in France, have set
up three joint companies in the last two years --one, called Lorex, in the
UK last year.

Four years ago a Synthelabo subsidiary, Lers, provided the share capital to
set up a limited company to fund Professor Turner's charity, the company is
called the Charterhouse Clinical Research Unit.

Professor Turner is a consultant to Charterhouse, whose chairman, Mr. Paul
Barclay, is the English lawyer for the Synthelabo group. The Charterhouse
medical director, Dr. Steven Warrington, is an honorary lecturer in
Professor Turner's pharmacology department at St. Bartholomew's.

Mr. Patten said in a letter to the Labour MP, Mr. Dale Campbell-Savours, in
October: "Professor Turner has never had any connections with Searle, nor
has he or anyone in his department been funded by them."

Professor Turner told the Guardian: "The Department of Health and Social
Security is aware of any commercial relationships I have, including my
relationship with Synthelabo and the Charterhouse Unit. These were
declared several years ago."

Both aspartame and the partnership with Synthelabo are considered essential
to Searle's survival, according to City analysts.

When the l983 results are in, they are likely to show that Searle's
operating profits from drugs have "plunged by as much as 75 per cent,"
while profits from aspartame may have "more than quadrupled," according to
the US brokers, Kidder Peabody. Searle is expected to sell nearly $600
million worth of aspartame worldwide this year.

The decline in Searle's drug business has been caused by a lack of new
products. The Synthelabo connection gives Searle access to high-grade
European research. The first joint company was Lorex, set up in the United
States in l982. Lorex has since formed a Canadian subsidiary. The other
two joint companies were set up last year -- one in Holland, the other in
the UK.

Synthelabo, based in Paris and owned by the beauty firm L'Oreal (which is
itself owned by Nestle) was until a few years ago a medium-sized company
investing heavily in research.

The Searle deals form what is thought to be the largest single sector of am
ambitious expansion programme that has made it the fourth biggest drugs
firm in France. The Searle connection has given Synthelabo the status of
an international company, as well as a new outlets, for its producers. It
is in Synthelabo's interests to ensure that Searle thrives.

Professor Turner and his colleague. Dr. Warrington, have worked on the
development of Synthelabo's beta blocker, Betazolo. They have published
several papers on the drug in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology.

Charterhouse was heavily criticized last month for paying unemployed people
and students 250 lbs or more to act as guinea pigs in the first trials of a
cancer drug, which, it was feared might itself promote the growth of
certain tumours.

Professor Turner told the Guardian in a statement last month that
Charterhouse was an independent company. Mr Barclay, the Charterhouse
chairman, explained: "It was setup by Lers (Synthelabo's research
subsidiary), it was their idea, and they subscribed the initial share
capital. In l981 most of their interest was transferred to the
charity. It was a way of having a research facility in England for them
and for other pharmaceutical companies."

Professor Turner also told the Guardian last month that "any profits" from
Charterhouse went to his charity. According to the last accounts filed by
Charterhouse, in l982 the firm paid 10,131 lbs "under covenant to the
trustees of Synthelabo Foundation. After this payment was made, the firm
recorded a profit of 40,464 lbs. In l981, Charterhouse paid 5,294 lbs to
the trustees.

Mr. Barclay explained: "The taxable profits went to the charity. They are
the profits upon which, if they had not been covenanted in this way, tax
would have to be paid."

The charity's file at the Charity Commissioner contains only one set of
accounts (for l983). They have not been audited. The trustees are
required by the Commission t file accounts every year. According to the
unaudited l983 accounts, the charity received 15,425 (lbs) under covenant
from Charterhouse and gave St. Bartholomew's Medical College 21,206 (lbs).

The two trustees, Professor Turner and Professor Bartholini, of Synthelabo,
are empowered according to the charity's records, to use the money to fund
research into clinical pharmacology and allied fields, for education and
"for the relief of sickness" not necessarily at St. Bartholomew's. The
trustees may, if they wish, invest the money.

The Guardian asked Professor Turner if he had been aware of the
Searle/Synthelabo connection, and if so whether he considered it might have
influenced his views on the products. He was also asked if he agreed that
people in positions such as his had an ethical duty to declare their
interests. He did not answer.

CVS has removed all products containing the chemical Phenylpropanolamine from their shelves. This was seen on the News both last night and this morning. Thought it might be helpful for all of you to have the list. Stop taking anything containing this ingredient. It has been linked to increased hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in brain) among women ages 18-49 in the three days after starting use of medication. Problems were not found in men, but the FDA recommended that everyone (even children) seek alternative medicine. The following medications contain Phenylpropanolamine:

Ten Reasons Never to Consume Soft Drinks...

* soft drinks steal water from the body. They work very much like a diuretic which takes away more water than it provides to the body. Just to process the high levels of sugar in soft drinks steals a considerable amount of water from the body. To replace the water stolen by soft drinks, you need to drink 8-12 glasses of water for every one glass of soft drinks that you consume.

* soft drinks never quench your thirst, certainly not your body's need for water. Constantly denying your body an adequate amount can lead to Chronic Cellular Dehydration, a condition that weakens your body at the cellular level. This, in turn, can lead to a weakened immune system and a plethora of diseases.

* The elevated levels of phosphates in soft drinks leach vital minerals from your body. Soft drinks are made with purified water that also leach vital minerals from your body. A severe lack of minerals can lead to Heart Disease (lack of magnesium), Osteoporosis (lack of calcium) and many other diseases. Most vitamins can not perform their function in the body without the presence of minerals.

* Soft drinks can remover rust from a car bumper or other metal surfaces. Imagine what it's doing to your digestive tract as well as the rest of your body.

* The high amounts of sugar in soft drinks causes your pancreas to produce an abundance of insulin, which leads to a "sugar crash". That's 80% of ALL complaints about food additives. * Soft drinks are EXTREMELY acidic, so much so that they can eat through the liner of an aluminum can and leach aluminum from the can if it sits on the shelf too long. Alzheimer patients who have been autopsied ALL have high levels of aluminum in their brains. Heavy metals in the body can lead to many neurological and other diseases.

* Soft drinks again are extremely acidic: the human body naturally exists at a pH of about 7.0. Soft drinks have a pH of about 2.5, which means you are putting something into your body that is hundred of thousands of times more acidic than your body is!!! What if someone were to tell you that a chemical (MSG) added to food could cause brain damage in your children, and that this chemical could effect how your children's nervous systems formed during development so that in later years they may have learning or emotional difficulties?
 
What if there was scientific evidence that these chemicals could permanently damage a critical part of the brain known to control hormones so that later in life your child might have endocrine problems? How would you feel?

Aspartame - An Intense Source Of Excitotoxins

ohn Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo, and spent years working for the government.
 He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America. In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so the scientists have to create them. They make these morbidly obese creatures by injecting them with a chemical when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and humans?) to become obese They even have a title for the race of fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats" .
 
In the book he wrote, an expose of the food additive industry called The Slow Poisoning of America, (www.spofamerica.com ), he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.
 
Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG at http://www.msgfacts.com/facts/msgfact12.html explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more. A study of elderly people showed that people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobby group says eating more benefits the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?
 
'Betcha can't eat just one', takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight? The MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.
 
Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance: NICOTINE for FOOD!
 
Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the prepackaged meals, soups, snacks and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.
 
The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount.  How can they claim it is safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these?

Both the medical research community and food "manufaturers" have known MSG's side effects for decades!

 But what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see?
 
Even as you read this, George W. Bush and his corporate supporters are pushing a Bill through Congress. Called the "Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act" also known as the "Cheeseburger Bill", this sweeping law bans anyone from suing food manufacturers, sellers and distributors. Even if it comes out that they purposely added an addictive chemical to their foods. MSG was in everything! The Campbell's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, Kraft salad dressings, especially the 'healthy low fat' ones. The items that didn't have MSG had something called Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate. It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. They hide MSG under many different names in order to fool those who catch on.
 
But it didn't stop there. When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items had MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere. Burger King, McDonalds, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant, even the sit down ones like TGIF, Chilis', Applebees and Denny's use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin, their secret spice was MSG!
 
So why is MSG in so may of the foods we eat? Is it a preservative or a vitamin?   Blow the whistle on MSG.
